Take the HSPT at SMA:

The High School Placement Test is a required step in the admissions process for 8th graders applying for 9th grade. The HSPT helps us determine the appropriate class placement as a student at SMA. Testing dates are as follows. Please plan on testing from 8:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

Note: Transfer students from other high schools do not take the HSPT.

HSPT Prep Class (Optional)
If your student is registered to take the HSPT at St. Michael the Archangel, they are invited to attend the HSPT Prep Class for FREE! Students will learn test taking tips, work through math problems and reading content that will be presented on the exam. This class will be held on Tuesday, November 18 during the SMA Info Night. Registration is required. Link to register will open October 1.

Benefits of Taking the HSPT at St. Michael the Archangel
St. Michael the Archangel offers two academic scholarships to incoming freshmen students who have taken the High School Placement Test at St. Michael the Archangel.

• President’s Scholarship • $1000
This scholarship is awarded to the student that receives a composite score of 99th percentile on the HSPT with SMA for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a freshman year scholarship.
• Principal’s Scholarship • $500
This scholarship is awarded to the remaining students who have achieved a composite score in the 95th percentile or higher with SMA for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a freshman year scholarship.
