Science Student of the Second Semester February, 2021
St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School (SMA) has awarded the science student of the month to engineering student, Anna Coke. Anna was nominated by her instructor, Mrs. Bland. Anna was nominated for this award because of her excellent attention to detail, curiosity and problem-solving skills. Anna approaches projects with both enthusiasm and a desire to learn. Mrs. Bland’s advice to her students is, “It is ok to memorize equations, but the real scientists are those who figure out how to apply formulas to real world problems.” Additionally, Anna is on the robotics and knowledge bowl teams. Because of her interest in science and her strong work ethic, Anna is establishing a good foundation, for herself, for a possible career in a STEM field.
SMA is fortunate to have Mrs. Bland join the math and engineering department. Mrs. Bland holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering along with fourteen years of experience in engineering consulting. Mrs. Bland has enjoyed teaching students her two favorite subjects, math and science. Mrs. Bland is a very positive, innovative teacher who engages her students with many hands-on activities.
