Tricia is passionate about working with young people. She has a strong desire to help young people foster a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. For seven years Tricia served at the Kansas City, Kansas Archdiocesan summer camp, Camp Tekakwitha. She worked on the leadership team at Camp and mentored many of the staff members. This gave Tricia great experience in organizing and leading groups and activities. Tricia is passionate about living out the Catholic faith. She loves to spend time with her family and be outdoors. Tricia lives an active life and seeks to find Jesus in all moments of life. She is excited to be a part of this new school and looks forward to furthering the mission of St. Michael the Archangel.
Rachel Bredemann • Language Arts Teacher
Rachel graduated from the University of Dallas in 2010 with a BA in English. She has taught secondary English literature and language arts for six years, and loves working with kids. She also enjoys quilting, dancing, cooking, and spending time with family. She's a devout Catholic with St. Joan of Arc as her confirmation saint. She's excited to be on board with the SMA crew and looks forward to the school's first year.
Hunter Eisenmenger • Music Director • Assistant Musical Director
Hunter will graduate from Benedictine College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education in May of 2017. He has grown up singing and playing instruments his entire life, and has been in numerous opera and musical theater productions. He has a passion for inspiring others to discover their own personal musical identity. His entire family is gifted in the area of Fine Arts. He has five brothers, including a twin. He loves to spend time creating choral compositions, going to the opera, camping and boating. Hunter is thrilled to begin a new music program at SMA!
Rena Espinosa • Business Office
This will be Rena’s twenty-eighth year working for the Diocese of Kansas City-St. Joseph. She is a St. Pius X graduate, and was the Finance Coordinator for St. Mary’s High School and Archbishop O’Hara High School. She is grateful and blessed to be a member of the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School Community and looks forward to coordinating all aspects of the finances in a friendly and informative manner for both the parents and staff. Rena is married to Mike Espinosa and has three children. Her grandson, Anthony will be a senior next year and a member of the first graduating class of St. Michael the Archangel High School. Rena is looking forward to a brand new adventure in this chapter of life!
Vince Fitzgerald • Director of Facilities • Head Cross Country Coach
Vince is a Rockhurst University graduate, class of 1984, with a BA in History. He has been the league director of the Kansas City Parochial League since June of 2001, and has spent the last 35 plus years coaching multiple sports from grade school to the collegiate level. He enjoys traveling, spending time with his extended family and is looking forward to being a part of the SMA community.
Tammie Glasgow • Guidance Counselor
Tammie graduated from Northwest Missouri State in 1983 with a BS in Education. She received her Master’s degree in School Counseling from the University of Central Missouri in 2003. She has been in education for more than 30 years; seventeen years in the classroom, and 15 years as a Professional School Counselor. She has been married for 34 years and has two sons. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends, reading and shopping.
Jacob Kirmer • Math Teacher
Jacob will graduate from Benedictine College in May of 2017 with a double major in Secondary Education and Mathematics. He is a member of the BC baseball team and eager to begin his teaching career and work with young athletes. Jacob enjoys his family, being around all sports, working on projects in the shop, and finding new adventures.

Mary Kroening is very excited to be joining the St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School faculty. Mary is a product of Catholic schools, attending Nativity of Mary Catholic grade school, Archbishop O’Hara High School and Rockhurst University. Mary graduated with a Bachelors in Psychology from Rockhurst University in 1999 and then returned and received her Mathematics Certification in Secondary Education and Masters of Education from Rockhurst University in 2006. She has spent the past 16 years as a teacher and girls’ basketball and soccer coach for AOHS. Mary is very passionate about teaching in Catholic schools. This allows her the opportunity to share the teachings of Christ and build strong relationships with her students and their families. She and her husband, Matt, are proud parents of their beautiful daughter, Sophia Rose. When not teaching or coaching, Mary loves spending time with her big family, going to movies, running in 5k races and cheering on her favorite Kansas City sports teams.
John Kuckelman • Director of Technology • Robotics Coach
John attended St. Paul Catholic School in Olathe, Kansas. He joined the United States Air Force upon graduation from Olathe High School. After serving four years in the Air Force, he graduated from Kansas University with a degree in Electrical Engineering. For more than 30 years he worked in the Information Technology field with extensive experience in software engineering. From 1993 - 2013 he worked for Cerner, where he was promoted to Vice President in 2003. In May 2015, after completing 2 years of coursework at Ottawa University, John was licensed to teach mathematics. Since 2015, he has been teaching math at Immaculata Catholic School in Leavenworth, Kansas. John has 5 children, 3 grandchildren and has been married for over 30 years. He and his wife are active members of Holy Trinity Parish in Lenexa, Kansas and his passion for his Catholic faith is lived out on a daily basis and through his countless volunteer hours in youth ministry for his home diocese of Kansas City in Kansas.
Dirk Lawson, J.D. • Business Technology Department Chair • Head Boys Soccer Coach
Dirk answered his call to the vocation of teaching in Catholic schools in 2012. He strives to positively impact others' lives through loving God above all others and loving one another as God loves him. Dirk is open to the Holy Spirit working through him to help others maximize their God given talents and abilities. He earned his Juris Doctorate from Boston University School of Law in 1997, after he graduated from Park University in 1994 with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Criminal Justice and Political Science, and he is a 1990 graduate of Sacred Heart Catholic High School. In 2015, Coach Lawson helped guide O'Hara to its first ever Missouri State Soccer Championship, and in 2016, he helped lead O'Hara to a Third Place finish. His two-year career record at O'Hara is 42-15-2. Coach Lawson has been honored as the Missouri State High School Parochial/Private Schools Coach of the Year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America ("NSCAA"), the Missouri Class 2 Private Schools Coach of the Year, the West Region Coach of the Year, and Conference Coach of the Year. Coach Lawson has more than 25 years of coaching experience, including being an Assistant Coach for Rockhurst High School's Varsity Team, and the Head Coach of the Rockhurst High School Sophomore Team. He holds a USSF D License, a NFHS/NSCAA Professional Development Certificate, and a NSCAA Youth Coaching Certificate. Dirk, and his wife, Aimee have been blessed with three wonderful children, and are parishioners at St. Thomas More.
Scott Lero • Teacher of Exceptional Education • Head Baseball Coach
Scott graduated from Mid-America Nazarene University where he played baseball and received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication. He earned a Master’s degree in Health, Physical Education and Recreation from Emporia State University in 2012. He has taught in the areas of Special Education and PE for the past seven years and coached baseball at the high school level for the past nine years. He is currently working towards an endorsement in Special Education. He is married and has two children. Scott enjoys time with his family and all things baseball. He is excited about joining the SMA community.
Fr. Gabe Lickteig
Fr. Lickteig grew up in Kansas City, attending St. Pius X High School. In 2008 he graduated from the University of Missouri. He then attended seminary at St. Gregory the Great in Seward, NE. Eventually, he graduated from the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, OH. Fr. was ordained by Bishop Robert Finn in 2015. He loves being a priest, all thanks be to God and the Blessed Mother! May St. Michael protect us all!!
Christine Loftis • Performing Arts Teacher • Musical Director • Head Dance Coach
Christine received her BFA in Dance from UMKC. She went on to minor in Speech/Theatre and earned Secondary Ed Certification through Avila University. Christine has spent the last two decades teaching at various dance studios and assisting schools with various productions. She is also well known throughout the Jackson County theater community. She served on the Board of Directors for Blue Springs City Theatre while directing and choreographing for several of their productions. This past summer, she choreographed for Raytown Arts Council's summer production. Christine and her husband reside in Blue Springs with their daughter who will be a sophomore at St. Michael the Archangel in 2017. She is most excited to be joining the school and stepping back into the classroom setting.
Steve Loecker • Science Teacher • Department Chair
Steve received a BA in chemistry in 1989 from Mount Marty College. In 1992, he received his MS in chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In 2008, Steve completed a Master of Arts in Teaching from Webster University. He has taught Chemistry at the high school and college level for nineteen years. Together, Steve and his wife Kathy have two children and two step-children. Steve is excited about the opportunity to teach science and to become a member of the SMA community.
Maddie Lueke • Science Teacher
Maddie graduated from Rockhurst University in 2015 with a BS in Biology followed by her Master of Education focused in Secondary Biology in December 2016. This will be her second year in the classroom, and she looks forward to fostering a culture which celebrates curiosity and wonder of the world around us. Maddie is a lifelong learner that enjoys both exploring the outdoors and relaxing indoors with a great book. She loves spending time with her family and friends, watching basketball, and playing with her puppy. Maddie is excited for the opportunity to help build the SMA community for generations to come.
Nancy McCoy • Teacher of Exceptional Education
Nancy received her Bachelor of Arts in Regular Education and Exceptional Education from Avila University in Kansas City, Missouri. Post graduate studies with an emphasis on teaching students with autism were completed at Central Missouri State University. She has been in education for more than thirty years, eighteen spent as a process coordinator. Nancy is dedicated to instructing students with varying styles of learning. She firmly believes that all students can achieve to their greatest potential and that students with special needs are one of God’s greatest gifts. She is a devoted mother to five precious children and truly enjoys time spent with her grandchildren. Nancy is a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church and is thrilled to be continuing on her faith journey at SMA.
Steve McCoy • Teacher of Exceptional Education
Steve received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Exceptional Education from Avila University and pursued post graduate studies at UCM, KU, and UMKC. His teaching of exceptional education, math and coaching experience covers a span of more than thirty years. Steve currently co-teaches students with exceptional needs with his wife, Nancy and uses his great sense of humor to motivate all students to do their best. Steve shares that the highlight of his teaching career is working in the Catholic school environment and is thrilled to continue on his faith journey with the students and staff at St. Michael the Archangel. Nancy and Steve have been married for thirty-two years and are the proud parents of five children and three grandchildren. After his love of God, family and students is his love of almost all things sports related.
Kellie McKinney • Business Technology Teacher
Kellie received her Teaching Certification in Secondary Business Education from Avila University in 2016. She earned her Master’s degree in Business Administration in 1994 also from Avila University. She has been in education for more than 15 years with instructional experience and care of children from birth through high school. Dedicated to learning and sharing her experience, she is excited to be a founding member of the SMA community. She is the proud mother of a creative and compassionate teenage daughter. She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, and new experiences.

Kevin is entering his 19th year as an educator and coach in the Kansas City area. He attended St. Regis Elementary, Hickman Mills High School, and Truman State University before completing his Master's Degree in Secondary Administration through William Woods University. Kevin, a member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church, resides in Lee's Summit with his wonderful wife Kristen, sons Ben and Will, and their dog, Libby.
Elizabeth Polina • School Nurse
Elizabeth is a 2011 graduate of St. Mary's High School. In 2015 she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Rockhurst University and obtained her registered nurse license. Her favorite aspect of nursing is sharing her knowledge through education. She is always cheering on the Kansas City Royals and enjoys crafting. She is thankful for receiving a Catholic education while growing up and is excited to give back and be a part of the SMA family and the many new traditions to come.
Richard Raney • Visual Arts Teacher
Richard graduated from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Design and Illustration. While in school, Richard freelanced for a number of magazines and design firms. Soon after graduation, he signed with a fine arts and illustration representative; that same year he also joined the staff of AOHS as an Art Instructor. Over the course of the last 16 years at AOHS, Richard has developed a passion for helping students find and develop their artistic abilities. Most summers he paints sets with the crew at New Theater Restaurant. Between teaching and commissioned artwork, he has a full schedule, but in his spare time he studies ancient history, creates personal artwork, and takes care of his three cats Yo-Yo, Meelo, and Mini. Richard is excited to start building the art curriculum for the community at St. Michael the Archangel.
Gina Rubio • Spanish Teacher
Gina, also known as Señora Rubio, graduated from the University of Panama with a BS in Architecture. She moved to Kansas City from Panama, her native country, twenty years ago. It was here she found her true passion; teaching. She received her Master’s degree in Education from Rockhurst University in 2007, with an emphasis in foreign language instruction. She has taught in Catholic schools for 15 years. Gina has two adult children and a beagle. She enjoys spending time with her family and friends and participating in activities that promote appreciation of other cultures. She is very excited to be part of the SMA family.
Mark Scanlon • Physical Education Teacher • Head Boys Basketball Coach
Mark graduated from Missouri Western in 1979 with a BS in Physical Education. He received his Master’s in Physical Education in 1984 from Northwest Missouri State. Mark has been in Education for 38 years. He has been married to Jane, also an educator, for 29 years. They have two beautiful daughters, Maggie age 25 an Elementary teacher, and Abbie age 21 a student at Missouri State.
Howard Schneeberger • Director of Aviation
Howard graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1962 and received a commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Air Force at that time. He became a pilot and has amassed over 20,000 hours of accident, incident, and violation free flight time. He is a Vietnam veteran with 340 hours of combat flight time and a retired Lt./Colonel. He has taught as a ground school, simulator, and flight instructor for Trans World Airlines during his 32-year career. He holds an Air Transport Pilot Rating; Multi-Engine Land, B-727, L-1011, B-747; Commercial Privileges L-382; and Flight Engineer Turbojet Powered Rating. He was an FAA designated check airman for TWA. Howard is a strong advocate of Catholic Education. He has two children and five grandchildren, all in the Kansas City area. He enjoys reading, kayaking, fishing, skiing and volunteering at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts. Howard is thrilled to be at the leading edge of a program that can be a model of Aviation Education at the Secondary level.
Kyle Sellnow • Theology Teacher • Head Boys and Girls Golf Coach • Drumline
Kyle was born and raised in the great northern state of Minnesota. He graduated from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN with a double-major in Philosophy and Catholic Studies. He then pursued a Master’s degree in Theology with an emphasis in Biblical Studies at the Saint Paul Seminary School of Divinity. After spending a year working in ministry in Minnesota, Kyle moved to Kansas City, MO in 2012 to teach Theology at Archbishop O'Hara High School. He is deeply passionate about learning, teaching, and having friendships that truly matter. He is excited to share his faith and his passion for people at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic High School.
Jorge E. Taracido, Ph.D. • Social Studies Teacher • Head Boys and Girls Tennis Coach
Jorge graduated from California State College-PA in 1973 with a BS in Education (History and Spanish). He received his MA in Spanish in 1975 and Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Renaissance Studies in 1984 both at the University of Missouri-Columbia. He has been in education for more than 40 years at the college and high school levels. Originally from Cuba, he has lived most of his life in Missouri and has one granddaughter, the joy of his life. He enjoys many sports, reading, and writing and has produced several published articles, poems, and a memoir on Cuba titled 4914. Jorge is blessed to form part of the St. Michael the Archangel faculty.
Brian Taylor • Head Wrestling Coach • Head Softball Coach
Brian graduated from Grandview High School in 1988 and attended McMurray College and Longview Community College. Brian and his wife Laurie have been married for 26 years and have two children and one grandson. Brian played baseball and wrestled in high school and wrestled in college. He has coached baseball, softball and wrestling for the past three years at Archbishop O'Hara High School. He has also coached competitive travel teams for Mac N' Seitz Baseball Academy. Brian enjoys duck hunting, college football and traveling. He enjoys cheering on all the high school teams and is excited to be a part of the SMA coaching staff.
Laurie Taylor • Registrar • Systems Operator
Laurie graduated from Archbishop O'Hara High School in 1986 and attended Longview Community College. She was the Business Manager at AOHS from 2006-2012 and has been in the Development Office for the last four years. She has seven brothers and sisters who have all graduated from AOHS. Laurie and her husband Brian have been married for 26 years and have two children and one grandson. She is an avid Royals fan, enjoys traveling and spending time with family.
Sonia Toledo • Department Chair World Language • AP Coordinator • Google-Classroom Coach
Sonia graduated from Emporia State University in 2013 with her Master’s degree in TESOL, and from the University of Kansas in 1993 with her BS in Business Administration. She also attended the University of Vienna, Austria and the University of Toulouse, France to study languages. She has a passion for language and culture and has taught in Austria, Peru, and the US for a number of years. She enjoys traveling every chance she gets. Sonia is looking forward to being a part of the SMA family.
Kenny Wachter • Theology Teacher
Kenny graduated from Benedictine College in 2012 with a BA in Secondary Education and Theology. He taught Theology at Maur Hill-Mount Academy from 2012 to 2015 and also was an assistant football and baseball coach during that time. He then pursued a Master’s in Theology at the University of Dallas starting in 2015 and will finish in the spring of 2017. He enjoys traveling, spending time with friends, and is excited to be part of the first faculty at SMA.
Melissa Wiehn • Social Studies • Head Cheer Coach
Melissa graduated from Concordia University, Nebraska in 2002 with a BS in Secondary Education, Social Studies subject area. From there she began her teaching career at Archbishop O'Hara High School, where she served for 15 years. In addition to teaching, Melissa coaches the SMA Guardian cheer team. She and her husband, Justin, are members of St. John Francis Regis parish. Their two children, Allison and Jack, attend St. Regis school. She enjoys being a “Soccer Mom” and crocheting gifts for friends and family. Melissa is honored to be a member of the SMA faculty and excited for what the future holds.
Rusty Williams • Custodial Support
Rusty graduated from AOHS in 1974. He was a car mechanic from 1978 to 1992 and was hired in March of 1992 to run the total energy plant at AOHS. He managed the plant from 1992 to 2001. He has maintained the AOHS facilities since 2001. He has a 27-year-old daughter who lives in Kansas. He loves animals and volunteers at a local animal shelter.
Sheridan Zarda • Math Teacher • Head Volleyball Coach
Sheridan recently graduated from Kansas State University where she earned a BS in Secondary Education and a minor in Mathematics. She also enjoyed playing volleyball as a K-State Wildcat. She is passionate about her faith, and enthusiastic about teaching and coaching. She is very excited about starting a new journey here at SMA.
